The Artisan

THE ARTISAN

This is a little known fact, but I actually come from a long line of carpenters, cabinet makers and wood workers. (my Dad was the 4th generation and he's teaching me everything he knows.)  Now, I am sort of limited due to a neurological condition I have had since I was born, my hands have a tremor that will never go away. We think it was caused by some mild form of brain damage, but exactly when or how it happened, we will never know.

Each and every one of my art teachers has noticed this problem and how well I have managed to overcome it. My art teacher in high school, Mrs. Walton, wrote me a college recommendation letter in which she stated that my nervous condition "makes his every effort miraculous."

In kindergarten, I was sent to a physical therapist who gave me these wrist weights filled with sand. I have used these for many years to help my hands hold steady.  I'll post a picture of them someday when I remember. I scrawled my name on them in five-year old scribble and it looks rather...quaint. :)

Since I was a little kid, I have always enjoyed making and building things with my hands. Be it out of blocks, K'nex, LEGOs or actual wood and nails.  Dad always let me help him when he worked on stuff in the basement and taught me how to use all his tools.  He got most of this knowledge handed to him by his father, and his grandfather before him.

Every so often, I create original craft projects or restore old antiques, working in wood and metals. And when I do, I will post them here.
